Carnival of Cordite #65

417908-410843-thumbnail.jpg (click that blatant pro-gun message) Welcome to the Carnival of Cordite #65.  This week there seems to be a common theme of submissions along the lines of well get this.. why we defend our Second Amendment Rights... "self defense".  What happens if you call 911, and get this message?

Our first post is from a Virginia Blogger Rocinante's Burdens, and this post by Roci  is a great example of his writing style of "take no prisoners",  Excerpt:

From the story, the emergency declaration was made after a democratic party activist was killed and his girlfriend was almost raped. The activist was working for the Mark Warner for president campaign and is NOT A US CITIZEN. What business is it of his who wins our elections? The message here is: If you are a tourist from Idaho, you are on your own. But if you are connected to the democratic party, the police are at your beck and call.

417908-280345-thumbnail.jpgAnd now to a blogger who needs no introduction, Say Uncle, who ways wades right in on the subject of the stupidity of Washington DC's Gun laws with two posts, Guns & Crime, and The WaPo Editorializes on Gun Laws, an excerpt with some of Uncle's indignation on display:

You guys have a cite for that because I’d love to see it. I looked and couldn’t find any such study. I did find reference to the Journal of Emergency Nursing Online calling it effective and that the National Center for Health Statistics fatal firearms accidents in the Eddie Eagle age group have been reduced more than two thirds since the program’s inception. And that the program has been honored or endorsed by groups such as the National Safety Council, the National Sheriffs’ Association, the Department of Justice, and bipartisan support from 24 state governors. Finally, the mere fact that 24,000 schoolteachers and law enforcement officers have taught the program to 15 million children verifies the popularity of the program with those who deal with child safety issues every day.

How about this "line of Reasoning" from NO Speed Bumps on a new strategy to make everyday citizens in Iraq have a safer life, "Handguns for Ordinary Iraqi's, an excerpt:

A handgun for every adult in Iraqi would be the perfect complement to their AK-47s at home! (I think some gun control types just went into convulsions somewhere.)

(click that AK) 417908-413611-thumbnail.jpgSpeaking of AK -47's here is a little piece of wisdom from the Movie Pulp Fiction Jackie Brown, AK-47, "When you absolutely, postitively, gotta kill every Mutha in Da Room", (sorry you have to browse with MicroSquish IE, but I'm working on it!)

Arms & The Law, has updates on a video/movie/documentary  he is working on, that I can't wait to see come to fruition, also this post, "Collective rights & The National Guard", that is best described by him:

This segment is from the beginning of the "collective rights" section, and deals with the question of the second amendment's wording in that regard. After this segment, it goes into the history of the National Guard (organized under Congress's unlimited power to raise an army, not under the restrictions of the militia clauses), then into the origin of the idea in a 1905 Kansas case (I found the original docket sheets -- it was an appeal from a $1 fine), US v. Miller, and later federal cases, before returning with another good thumping. And all the above (most of it not in this clip) is about 20 minutes of a 1:45 movie.

417908-382937-thumbnail.jpg (anti-gunners, Karl has a message for you) He also has this post on "Florida Crime Rates Dropping", he opines:

Interesting data released today. Florida is, of course, the inventor of liberalized handgun concealed carry permits, of "castle doctrine" laws that allow lethal force in self defense without having to retreat, and a few other such measures.

Next up has got to be a proud "Pappy" because TFS Magnum reports that "Armed 12 Year-old stops attack on family".  That's my Boy!!

417908-413466-thumbnail.jpg(click on that K-31) Vengeful Zhid has got some "Surplus Military Hardware" for us to check out in this post "Affe's Got A Gun". They also see to be shooting pretty well too, check out K-31 Range Report.  Zhid,  I do apologize if I have missed some of your submissions in previous COC's.. If you get to "The Old Dominion", look me up I will buy you a drink.

417908-413465-thumbnail.jpg Hell In A Handbasket has two good posts.  The first has him and a friend making some observations on french "action flicks" (most of the  plots have to center around the art of surrender, no doubt), first is "Where Are the French Guns?", an excerpt:

Another odd detail was that the wheel guns were reserved for civilians and female cops. If a character appeared on screen who was a male professional, then they had an autoloader. Even the security guards had some pretty modern hardware in their flap holsters. But if the plot called for a female cop, then chances were she had to make do with a sixgun.

417908-413708-thumbnail.jpg(click that 1911)  The next is "Not Appropriate", which details:

Unfortunately the design doesn't have a reputation for out-of-the-box reliability when loaded with modern defensive ammunition, and for good reason. Trying to use a basic 1911 for defense means that you will most likely be saddled with a jamming machine instead of that ultimate self defense tool mentioned above. That is why I always urge my students to buy something (anything!) other than a 1911 until they get some experience.

417908-413464-thumbnail.jpg Next up is Michael Blane Blog with "Strike Me Dead & Call Me Cornpone! (I like this guy's attitude), excerpt:

At this rate pretty soon the only people in favor of any kind of gun control will be the helpless pitiful bleeting sheep over at the Brady Center, who can't even score invitations to the B-list Beltway parties anymore. Even the Tell-A-Big-Lie spinners at the Violence Policy Center have gotten really really quiet.

Chublogga is back in the Carnival of Cordite with "Firearms Myths, Pt. 1", and let me tell ya he's dead on with this observation:

The Myth of "Accidental" Discharge - Very few of the events categorized as "accidental" discharges are truly accidental. "Accidental" discharge implies that the firearm did something it was not supposed to - like firing by itself, without the user deliberately pulling the trigger. However, a gun has to be in pretty bad condition in order for this to happen. Thus, most "accidental" discharges are actually negligent discharages - in other words, user error. So KEEP YOUR DAMN FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU'RE READY TO SHOOT (Rule #2). Shooting your friend because you're goofing around with a firearm is not an accident - it's negligence.

 417908-413716-thumbnail.jpg

Next we have Debt Free, and "Should The United Nations Determine Your Civil Rights?.  Excerpt:

This is simply poppycock. Kofi Annan not withstanding, other delegates were much more forthcoming. Stated the Indonesian representative “We believe that no armed group outside of the State should be allowed to bear weapons. We also believe that regulating civilian possession of Small Arms/Light Weapons will enhance our efforts to prevent its misuse.

Next up we have Josh's Weblog with "Vitter Amendment, A Big Victory?",their observation:

So, this is a form of pre-emption. Your local tinpot Mayor can't order the cops to take your guns just because the fit hit the shan. However, this amendment only removes federal funding for disaster workers confiscating guns, and the States can make their own laws in this regard and get the money then, so is this really a victory?

and "No Action By the UN A Big Victory?"

417908-262791-thumbnail.jpg(get some)  and finally into the "Rodney Dangerfield Slot", STD goes into the archives and blurts out this, "Santa Delivers in War on Terror".  This was one of my very first posts, and since this week was a light blogging week, and the Gun Show in Carlisle, PA. I am having to reach back into the archives.

Thank You for your submissions, and Thank You for visiting the COC #65!!!

Oh, and I do have this little message from Clint.. I mean if you really think you are just gonnna...

I believe the AK-47 quote was from Jackie Brown, not Pulp Fiction :) Good carnival.

"Jackie Brown" was Quentin Tarantino's follow-up to "Pulp Fiction." A good movie. But not nearly as fun as the Gimp...

Chris:

Another great job on the carnival my man. Just
one comment on something Diamondback said in response to a post on Colt 1911's on Hell In A Handbasket. He said in essence "all semi's jam".
That's a complete crock and I take extreme exception to it. I own a Ruger P-94 .40 cal that
I have shot HUNDREDS of rounds through and it has NEVER jammed and I don't expect it ever will
because it is a fine weapon. Just because
Diamondback has owned a bunch of junky guns is
no reason to make a blanket statement like that.
Nuff said :=)
