Buena Vista, Virginia: Opening Day of 2006 Political Season

774483-458234-thumbnail.jpg(Click on Leaders for Freedom)

Buena Vista, Virginia is famous for being the traditional "Kick Off" for all political campaigns in the Our Great Commonwealth, and today's event's really showed the strength of the Allen Campaign.  Here is a Senator George Allen, Congressman Bob Goodelatte (R) 6th District, and Our Greatest Patriot, General, and President George Washington, Campaigning together in Buena Vista. George for George.  Benedict was a "No Show" for Jim Webb.

774483-458239-thumbnail.jpg Washington seen here with a Young Patriot, was well received by an enthusiastic crowd of Virginians in Buena Vista yesterday.  STD, had a quick interview with our "Revolutionary General", and I posed this question of our First President:

STD: President Washington, Isn't it true, that you  discouraged us (Americans) from embracing political parties at all?

President Washington:  Yes, however, I would like to direct you to the United States Constitution that we adopted, for further clarification.  Article IV, Section four which clearly states :

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

So there you have it from our First President, Uphold the Constitution & Vote Republican!

774483-458295-thumbnail.jpg(Click to See the Senator knowing the front end from the rear end of  a horse)

Senator Allen delivered a well received and applauded speech on what is really on the minds of the Virginian voters, Lower Taxes, Real Immigration Reform, and Leadership in the "War on Terror".  He emphasized that the United States of America is a country that promotes Freedom, not only here, but delivering that Freedom to countries like Iraq & Afghanistan. He does support our President in Fighting the War, and does not endorse the Democrat's policy of  "Cut in Run" in Iraq.

(Webb hardly had  a VW full of signs)

774483-458228-thumbnail.jpg The Allen Campaign clearly "crushed" the weak showing by the anemic Webb Campaign, which obviously didn't have the "muscle" of  Move On.org which showed up for Governor Kaine last year in Buena Vista.  Kaine clearly bested the Jerry Kilgore for Governor Campaign in that "Sign War".  Webb's few signs were scattered & clearly out done by the Allen Campaign, which had signs everywhere.

774483-458249-thumbnail.jpg The Best the Webb campaign could do was have a "Donkey " on the scene, which I must say was not countered by an elephant :-)  I talked to the Donkey, who later who identified himself as a Webb volunteer, who had traveled in from out of state to lend a hand.  He was very enthusiastic for the absent candidate, and mentioned that Senator Allen did shake his hand, before heading off to the next parade in Covington, VA.

The Webb people on hand were basically subdued, although you heard the occasional "Macaca" outburst, but they seemed basically "part of the wood work" during the proceedings.  I.E. they refrained from "donning" monkey and Banana suits.....

774483-458238-thumbnail.jpg(Notice, I'm Not Wearing Warner 4 Prez 08' Sticker)

His Excellency, Governor Tim Kaine was at BV.  STD was not privy to all of the questions being poised to him by the press, but by the expression on his face, (and brow) he obviously would have rather had known about the $137 million dollar surprise, (budget goof) left to him by the Warner Administration.

774483-458246-thumbnail.jpg(Please Remember Me, I was Governor, Remember?)

Speaking of "Elect Me, I raised Taxes in a Conservative State",  former VA Gov. Mark Warner was on Hand for James Webb.  He gave a rather subdued speech for the benefit of the press, and at least the three dozen (at the most) Jim Webb supporters on hand.

Frankly, the best Anti Administration, (read here, George W. Bush) speeches were delivered by the two independent candidates opposing Congressman Goodelatte for his seat in Congress.  These were droning, and rather "screeching" affairs, that far out lasted the brief remarks by the "Elected Candidates" on hand. It was really kind of embarrassing, and STD does appreciate "tossing out the bums", but the two independent candidates on hand were  hardly even worth mentioning.

One did talk about having "micro chips" implanted in every cow that we may have to eat in the future... I must admit, if that had been followed by and "micro chips" would be implanted in every gun we bought, it would have "Perked My Attention", but instead... it was just the cattle....

774483-458240-thumbnail.jpg(click to see Rhonda & the Press)

On an "Upbeat Note", Rhonda Winfield was at BV, and Senator Allen graciously took a minute to mention her in his speech. Rhonda lost her son Jason Redifer in the Fighting in Iraq.  She gave Senator Allen Jason's dog tags a couple months ago, as a "Reminder of the Price of War".

She is seen here being interviewed by numerous news organizations.  Rhonda is an incredible person, and her book "When Johnny Doesn't Come Marching Home", describes in real terms, what real sacrifice for Freedom is all about.  This is a real hard hitting book, about real people, sacrificing for a "Real Cause", today.

(Signs, Signs, Everywhere)

774483-458243-thumbnail.jpg Overall, Buena Vista was a huge success, and great "Kick Off" for the Allen Campaign.  The "anemic" showing by the Webb Campaign, only underscores the real lack of support he really has as a candidate for US Senate in Virginia.  No matter that James Webb was seeing his son off to Iraq to "Fight the War on Terror", his campaign should have been able to mount a viable "political ground presence", at Buena Vista, which it did not.  Where were the Ground Troops?

It has become a tradition for Powhatan Republicans of all ages to meet early on Labor Day in Delegate Lee Ware's garage to blow up balloons to hand out at the parade. Mrs. Ware provided delicious blueberry muffins and coffee and the garage quickl ......

Oh my! A donkey costume! That does it. I'm voting for Webb.

Great report and pictures. Which reminds me, I better do one for Powhatan.

And the donkey had to come from out of state? There are not enough Virginias willing to make asses out of themselves? Oh, I can't believe I just said that-ouch! Keep up the good work Chris.

You guys missed one heck of a time! All the big wigs were in town "glad handing" the citizenry, speechifying, and talking about finishing that Flood Wall for Buena Vista (I kinda wonder what's next after the flood wall). Maybe relocating the Department of Motor Vehicles HQ there or something....

All I want to know is where was that meat on the grill at??

It should also be noted that the Webb people had to RENT a pickup truck to haul their few signs-I guess a Prius wont do the job......

Scottie:
That is an excellent observation, Heck, they had to go to Maryland to get someone for the Donkey Suit!

Good eye on the Venison Ham... That was on the smoker for when I got back home from BV! That was some good eating, and still is... Smoked for about 7 hours, marinated in WoWo, special seasoning rub....

The Dear Lord provided a great animal, and that quarter at least didn't go to waste!

Yo Spanky:

I really like the picture you took of me, but I am afraid that you got it all wrong.

I am not from out of State. I am a Virginia donkey through and through!

I am closely associated with a certain lawyer who WORKS in Maryland, but lives here in Virginia. He liberates Maryland dollars and spends them down here.

(Thought I explained that to you.)

When you met me, I was coming back from the Hillsville Gun show, where our Webb Supporters had two tables: one "Sportsmen" oriented, and one oriented to the Bubba-fest/flea market outside. I hung out outside: more good grain to graze on out there.

And as far as signs go, it is not surprising that you saw more Allen signs than Webb signs. The local Webb people posted their signs before Allen's out of town Shutz-Staffen got there, and they "sandwiched" all the Webb signs: meaning they posted Allen signs directly in front of (and sometimes behind) each Webb sign, so they were invisible.

As I explained to you, this ass was beside himself.

I had to stop and move about 200 Webb signs so that people could see both them and the Allen signs. But unlike your "Blue-Shirts" we let the Allen signs stay visible: we dems, Spanky, are gentlemen -- er -- well, some are gentle-donkeys.

But I got there late and had to parade at the very end of the procession as a result of the delay: probably apt though -- it was the ass end of the parade.

Noticed a whole lot of the Allen people were young folks in matching blue t-shirts that seemed to be from out of town, seemed not to particularly care about your candidate or his message, and spent a lot of their time with the signs on their way . . . where? Back to campus! This donkey thinks darkly: most of these aren't really Allen supporters --> these are paid college kids who have been recruited to carry a sign for a fee. Mercinary activists? Or was it just those teenage hormones at work? Makes it hard to concentrate, I understand.

Well, apparently the folks who were directing these baby blue shirts was scared enough about the Webb message that they felt it necessary to sandwich Webb's signs:

The donkey left a few of them that way -- the meat in the middle of the sandwich -- cause it sends a different, and more interesting message:

Allen fears Webb; ALLEN FEARS THE DONKEY.

I know he does: I could feel him shaking when he shook my hoof.

He should fear the donkey.

The donkey's gonna rock his little elephantine world!

Respectfully,

The Donkey

Good Comments! Ass end of the parade, "shakin when he shook my hoof" !

That is good stuff! I stand corrected, but you were also born in MD like me also, correct?

Hey now, Move on.org pulled out the stops 4 Big Daddy Gov. Kaine, and the RNC looks out for their conservatives! Plenty of VA blood there, don't worry about that. I saw plenty of fellow Pubs from GWB04 and Kilgore campaigns, I am afraid you guys have a lot of "Pub Grassroots", just as motivated here as we were against the Franken Kerry!

You guys got crushed on signs, and should admit it! I admited Big Daddy Kaine, bested Kilgore.. really by about the same margin..

You are sort of correct: two of the donkey's many alter egos were born in Maryland: they left there when they were 4 years old and 4 months old respectively, and now both have a few more cumulative years in Virginia:

The donkey himself was born of a Virginia seamstress, and most other alter egos are native.

So if I am a Maryland donkey, I guess that would make you a Maryland Spanky!

Have to admit that Allen had more signs: but "crushed?" There were hundreds of Webb signs, adding to that Vista. Thats where the "Buena" part came from.

The only sense that Webb was "crushed" was that his signs were crushed between Allen signs because Allen's people sandwiched them there

-- that is until the Donkey took the meat out from Allen's sandwiches --

then what was left along that Buena Virginia byway were fairly evenly dispersed servings of Webb's beef -- followed by thin slices of Allen's white bread.

The Donkey

I didn't join the Pub party (officially) until this year, I previously have voted for Chuck Robb, and Doug Wilder.. I am not monolithic in support of Pubs... I think McCain sucks! His views on gun rights is pathetic.

Anyhow, you were not in BV for Kilgore/Kaine, where Kaine clearly "bested Kilgore, not a crushing like I am saying happened, but I think if you ask a fellow "Ass"... :-) Who was there for both, they would agree.
