Is It Just Me, or are Elected Officials Just Plain Arrogant?
I just finished reading Former Senator Bell's epistle on our ACRC Mass Meeting, and I'd like to share with you all my response to his post:

That is why he is former Sen Bell.
Give him hell Spank!
Excellent post and comment, only one minor correction. Shrewsberry did not nominate Bailey for Temporary Chair. She nominated him for Permanent Chair in the middle of Temp. Chair. nominations. That of course, was ruled out of order. Someone in the back right corner of the room made the correct nomination and received a second.
What a joke. Learn how to run your own local party before you tell Sen. Bell what he needs to do. This kind of stupid stuff is what gives the party a bad name. Shame on all of you nuts up there. The will of the people should stand. At least have anouther mass meating to sort this out. In Floyd County we had a great meeting, even though two seats changed hands. I was elected Treasurer replacing someone who had served for a long time. Somehow no one got mad or had a second meeting to try to change the results. I call on Sen. Bell to form a team to help ya'll with anouther mass meeting. I would be glad to help. It seems you need someone to help to clean up the mess.
Well Thank You Lauren for your fine offer, but if you can not grasp that it was the elected officials that turned our meeting into a circus, it would seem you are hardly an unbiased party.
If the elected's had allowed the committee to proceed, as per our bylaws we would have had a fair election.
Dr. Michael by the way, just got our county out of hot water by conducting a proper meeting to seat our Delegates. If you are going to hijack an airplane you better know how to fly it!
I love your will of the people comment, it is so Al Gore! Thanks for advocating that we should just forget about our bylaws....electoral systems be darned huh?
I can only say that to have a meeting that was conducted as yours was is a black eye on the party. I am sure that folks on both sides are to blame. No matter who we may point the finger at, we still look like a bunch of hicks who can't even run a meeting. Why should a voter put there faith in a Republican if they can not even get along with like minded people? What message are we sending here????? It's like sending out Gilmore to face Warner. The voters are looking on thinking " Is this the best they can offer?".
Ms Yoder:
Read the minutes, an elected official interrupted a set mass meeting by making the motion to install a new temporary secretary.
The Temp was voted in, and then didn't run the meeting properly.
You maam, with all do respect are in 'DENIAL' that the elected officials turned our meeting into a circus, and placed a 'black eye' on the party.
Your criticism should be solely on that party and not us. I do find it funny that you are calling them 'hicks' for not running the meeting correctly however.
Furthermore, what does Governor Jim Gilmore have to do with this subject?
Your predjudice is glaring.
First, one small correction, I am a guy with a girls name. Thankyou mom and dad!!!!!
I may have some predjudice , I do lean right after all. I only know the mood of Va is such that Gilmore doesn't have much of a chance. But that aside I do hope that as a party we can put forward a good image. On a diferrent subject algether, as someone who has just become active in our local party I would love to read about some of the things Republicans in other counties do. Having been elected treasurer I am really intrested in ways to raise money and different events, ect.

Former Senator Bell:
Your bitterness shows through with each and every post.
First of all four elected officials orchestrated the take over of the ACRC meeting.
Commissioner of Revenue Jean Shrewsbury rose to nominate a new temporary chair, a former chairman of the Augusta County board of Supervisors. The Current chairman of the Augusta County BOS was sitting in the front row, and called for a division of the house calling for a vote on the challenge.
Now let me get this straight, you have three elected politicians, hardly volunteers, backed up by a three term state senator Emmett Hanger, and they completely make a circus out of our meeting to suit their own purpose.
They knew they had to throw out the magesterial district model in our bylaws whereby they had to win 4 of the 7 districts. So then they moved to suspend the rules, and go for a majority vote, where North River, Emmett's district had more voters present than three other districts altogether.
The power grab sir, was by elected officials who should know how to run a meeting. They want a committee composed of public officials, by the public officials and for the public officials.
They will not stand for a committee composed of mere citizens who actually volunteer out of duty to party principles. Principles that you had forsaken, and cost you your Senate Seat.
I think this is the lesson to be learned from that meeting, if you are going to hijack a plane, you better know how to fly it!
Elected officials took over that meeting and turned it into one big black eye for the GOP in our county.
Had the elected's sat back and let the ahem, volunteers run the meeting, they would have saved all of us a bunch of embarrassment, and still had a good shot at winning.
Keep on taking cheap shots at the grass roots leaders like Dr. Michael and Jim Crosby, and see just how much you endear yourself to the rank and file.
I have volunteered a lot of my time for the party, and I will continue to do so. If for no other reason to make sure that the party represents the people.
It seems that once the electeds get in they feel they have carte blanche, and the party's function is only to serve them.
Wake up Sir, You serve the people and Party, not the other way around!
