Bob Marshall's Second Amendment Record Exposed

Spark it Up is highlighting something pretty disturbing revelations about Del. Bob Marshall's 2A voting record:

January 27, 2000

Dear Del. Bob Marshall

The Virginia Citizens Defense League is the largest grassroots gun-rights group in the Commonwealth. We led the effort to reform Virginia's Concealed Carry law and we have continued to lead the fight for gun-rights in Virginia.

Your bills, HB 350 ( http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?001+ful+HB350 )
and HB 351 ( http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?001+ful+HB351 ), would clearly infringe upon the right to bear arms. In Virginia it is legal to carry a firearm or knife in an open manner. Why do you want to make it a crime to do so on taxpayer property? Whether your bill would exempt Concealed Carry Permit holders is a matter of legal interpretation. You can bet that anti-gun localities such as Alexandria and Fairfax would use your law to harass law-abiding gun-owners.

Del. Marshall - your bills do not "mirror Project EXILE". Project EXILE was targeted at convicted felons. Your bill will create felons out of otherwise law-abiding folks!

Del. Marshall - on behalf of gun owners across Virginia I ask you to withdraw these dangerous gun control bills! I am sure you will hear from other concerned citizens, please listen to us!

Sincerely,

Paul W. Moog, Jr. President Virginia Citizens Defense League

Either STD or the Gilmore campaign hasn't learned how to read legislation, if they had they would realize that no gun rights were violated in these two bills. If Gilmore wants to be a Senator he better learn how to read bills first.

I am member Gun owners of America and a member of Virginia Gun Owners coalition, (and also a life member of the NRA- I do not admit that very often I joined in my youth)
I remember this Bill for 2000 very well.
When reading the bill it looks like an anti gun Bill.
At first I got email from VCDL and GOA to lobby against this Bill.

But then we all read the Bill... (Before Gilmore attacks his opponent he should learn how to read legislation....maybe he should learn how to read Bills before he decides to run for the Us Senate...opps to late.) After we all read the Bill it became clear all the exemptions in this Bill made sure nobodies Gun rights were harmed.
After GOA and Larry Pratt read the Bill and spoke to the sponsor they were not opposed to the Bill. Gilmore’s camp must be getting scared. They are launching every attack they can think of at Marshall in hopes of getting a hit. (Reminds me of Hillary launching attacks at Osama desperately trying to stop Obama's momentum). Everyone knows Bob Marshall is a solid Pro-Gun legislator. Marshall is endorsed by GOA (the only pro-gun that has endorsed in the Senate race) GOA knows Bob Marshall's record on gun rights than anyone in the Commonwealth. This is a silly attack from Gilmore and he looks like a light weight when he does stuff like this.

I think you need to learn to read Woodshed. Both bills introduced by Marshall infringe my rights.

Bob Marshall would not allow anyone to carry(even a knife) in a park... Sure..Thats not Gun Control.
I guess that is why the GOA and NRA are fighting hard for our rights to carry in federal parks right now.

"The Bush administration, after more than seven years, has finally issued regulations permitting the carrying of firearms in national parks. Gun owners will soon be able to carry firearms according to the laws of the state in which the park is located.

While not perfect, the proposed regulations, which are likely to take effect at the end of June 2008, represent a sharp contrast with the steadfast refusal to allow for self-defense in national parks." - Not if Bob Marshall has his way. You can spin yourself in circles but the fact remains that Marshall supports gun control and his record shows that.

Meanwhile Jim Gilmore sits on board of directors of the NRA. I think Virginia knows who best supports the 2nd Amendment.

It's pretty clear that GOA either didn't do their research or had some ulterior motive not related to gun rights when they endorsed Marshall.

GOA should immediately withdraw it's endorsement of this gun-grabbing hypocrite or explain to it's supporters the real reason they endorsed Bob Marshall.

This is absurd, We all know that both Marshall and Gilmore are as solid as a Rock when it come to the second amendment, Ever think of attacking Mark Warner for a Change?
Although I Support Marshall, I Don't attempt to assassinate Gilmore's character, Sure I have damaging info on one of Gilmore's associates, but i'm not so sleazy as to bring it out.
Lay off the attacks, Either Candidate could be the nominee and we must accept that.

What part of it is illegal to possess a gun knife or taser in a park doesn't the Pro-Marshall crowd get?

I guess it will take a little longer before the 'buyers remorse' really sets in.

PWC:
Why don't you ask that of Marshall and his surrogates when they go to mass meetings? they constantly attack Gilmore, while he just talks about his accomplishments.

oh, and you don't think Marshall's elements haven't been trying to assasinate Gilmore on abortion... what do they say 700,000 dead babies a year Because of Jim Gilmore's position... position now, not what Gilmore has done for the pro-life movement.

BTW Pro-Gin Voter:
You remember that bill well, but you don't remember your name.... why so anonymous? My name is Chris Green, and I can read these bills and HB 1474 and I can see where Marshall's heart really is.

What part of those bills DOES NOT infringe upon rights that we now enjoy? Mr. Woodshed and Mr. Pro-gin voter both need to read. These bills would have outlawed open carry and ccw within public buildings and public parks.
Outlawing tazers in the same places prevents those that are against lethal forms of defense from ANY self defense.

A more pressing concern is the fact that Bob Marshall is engaging in some rather transparent attempts at "astroturfing." For someone with so much supposed grassroots support it is rather surprising he would do something like this.

The "Virginia's Freedom" ( http://virginiasfreedom.com/ ) site that is raising money for Bob Marshall says prominently at the bottom of the page:

"Not authorized by any candidate."

A clear implication that it is a third party grassroots organization raising money on Bob Marshall's behalf. However, when you check the domain registration you discover this:

Furthermore, a now-removed Bob Marshall campaign ad ( http://gobobgo.wordpress.com/2008/04/23/what-others-say-about-bob-marshall-integrity-matters/ ) that was mysteriously removed was hosted on the same YouTube account as this "Virginia's Freedom" video.

What is Marshall trying to pull? To quote Marshall's disappearing campaign ad "Integrity Matters, Bob!"

This also raises the question of what sort of toll an FEC complaint would take on Marshall's $19,000 campaign coffers.

The contact phone number for Virgninasfreedom.com is (703) 368-6306? Why, that's Bob Marshall's home phone number as listed on his campaign site! What sort of sick twisted game is Marshall playing here?!
