Entries in VA Marriage Amendment (3)

Light Blogging

Worked the Augusta County fair tonight at the VA4Marriage Booth.  Handed out Literature, stickers, & ultimately cornered a couple Jim Webb supporters to discuss the "Marriage Amendment".  I launch into my normal discussion of how I feel that we should encourage Marriage between a man and a woman exclusively, because well, it produces children for the future work force, retarding the need for "unrestricted" immigration, and ultimately a country that can not reproduce its own population is sure to contract and die off.

My conversation with one Webb supporter ended when she declared "You refer to... Those People".  Yeah, I said, you know "those people who want same sex marriage".  She then said, "We can not continue this conversation, because you just lump everyone together, and don't care about them, because they love one another, work, pay taxes etc".

So we parted ways...   I went over to the Libertarian booth who were supporting Arin Sime for Senator Emmett Hanger's Seat in the VA GA.  I talked with them for an hour and a half, and even used the term "those people" (when like describing, people who want higher taxes, or whatever), and amazingly enough.. everything was OK....

Michael Ramirez Cracks me Up! - Cartoon Round Up

Michael Ramirez the political cartoonist for Investors Business Daily "cracks me up".  How do you come up with the typical bar scene from like cheers, and have the Iranian President holding a nuclear bomb over his head proclaiming "I Want To Kill All The Jews"! The bartender is watching TV, (hardly noticing), and the patron looks over his shoulder and asks him "To Keep It Down, they are trying to watch the news on Mel Gibson".

I'd say that captures the mood and mentality of many Americans.  "Quiet Down, American Idol is on"!  But I just can't get over the mentality of coming up with this "toon", it is freaking hilarious.  Next time I am in Applebys, I expect the Iranian President to walk in with a Nuclear Bomb over his head.

Speaking of Mel Gibson, he has a good one drawn up for that one too.  It's just too good...

Daily WhackJob: "What Brown Cow"?

417908-411574-thumbnail.jpg When is a Brown Cow, not a Brown Cow?  When the DWJ turns it into a lot of Bull ! For those of you just "tuning in", it all started when I posted this in support of the VA Marriage Amendment.  DWJ, counters with this, and in turn STD posts this, and now the latest from DWJ, here.

What is the crux of this argument?  This statement by me:

Seriously, there are plenty of cases now where poor grandma and grandpa die, but it goes unreported because the Social Security checks quit coming… It’s probably why Gubment wants us all in nursing homes, so they can verify when we check out.

Whereby the DWJ responds with:

First, an incorrect fact that could be checked with an easy phone call or google search:

Social Security is notified both by the funeral home and when the death certificate is filed (also by the funeral home). When my father died last year, this notification was performed within 48 hours of his death. He also offers no argument here that supports a governmental desire to place all aging citizens in nursing homes. The argument could be put forward that with the medicare/medicaid crisis, this statement is false.

Well, I did a Yahoo search to be exact of,  "Social Security Fraud unreported deaths".  And We find this Social Security Report completed 1/24/3,  & it details, on page 8 (don't have to go far):

In FY 2002  OIG (Office of Inspector General) investigations resulted in the successful prosecution of 210 individuals who had fraudulently negotiated the checks of deceased social security beneficiaries and recipients. In addition, investigative efforts related to deceased individuals resulted in total program savings of $19,289,842 in FY 2002.

At this point it time to bring up a really good quote by Dem. Senate Candidate James Webb's Great Aunt Lena, from the book "Born Fighting", page 340:

“I remember sitting in the starkness of her living room in 1975 after I finished law school, under her quiet, almost accusing stare, and her finally breaking the silence by saying simply, “So you’ve been to law school. Did they teach you how lie yet?”

Now, I started this post with the question, "When is a brown cow not a brown cow"?. Here is DWJ's  reponse to the Office of The General Inspectors report providing evidence, that yes the SSA is being defrauded by individuals not reporting the deaths of "granpa & granma so the "the checks will keep coming":

DWJ “What we garner from this is the 210 cases were prosecuted in 2002, and it can be assumed that in many of these cases, the fraud began before 1999 (based on the Sept 2002 example given). So, two million SSA beneficiaries die each year, and 210 cases of fraud were prosecuted. This doesn’t qualify as proof. It’s too limited to provide a good example and does not assist in the argument.”

210 cases of actual convictions of defrauding the SSA in FY2002 alone, which doesn't even take into account how many cases were pending at that time under investigation or going to trial!  "My proof" simply doesn't "qualify". Well, I don't know if DWJ has been to law school, but he sure can turn a brown cow into bull.

Now DWJ is also asserting that STD is some kind of uneducated "bumkin" who doesn't understand the definition of the word "fallacy:

  1. A false notion.
  2. A statement or an argument based on a false or invalid inference.
  3. Incorrectness of reasoning or belief; erroneousness.
  4. The quality of being deceptive.

DWJ, #2 seems to apply well here to "your argument being based on a false or invalid reference".  I correctly made the statement, that "Yes", people are defrauding SSA, and you "tore off" on the incorrect notion that I was meaning to deceive people with my statement! So much for your very first sentence of your original post:

I’m a stickler for checking my facts (or offering a disclaimer/question if I don’t have a source or am not sure of my assumption) and presenting the best argument I can that is valid and lacks the standard fallacies.

DWJ, you just keep on checking them facts... man I bet James Webb is "Proud as a Peacock" to have you "fighting with him", and just to leave you be on a humorous note, I give you this (audio will appear with MS IE)
