An Officer & a Gentleman?

bearing drift cursing lee jackson.jpg(click on Jr's Al Sharpton routine) JR Hoeft and Squeaky Wheel of Bearing Drift display their 'potty' mouths, in a post they are so proud of "Ahh Sh!t, Lee-Jackson Day again?  Except it seems they are so proud of their post that they pull it down?

Well, just so the rest of the blogosphere can see the fruits of their labor, I have provided some screen shots here for an archival view of what has to be the 'low light' of a very young 2008 year in blogging.

But wait, it's just not a show, if we don't drop the 'F' bomb while attacking General's Lee & Jackson!  These two think they are scoring big time Political Correctness points, but in reality by comparing Generals Lee and Jackson to Hitler's goons & Stalin, they are only embarrassing themselves.  Generals Lee & Jackson were actual Officers and Gentleman, period.

Both of you came out cursing two very famous American Generals, who tower above the either of you as Officers & Gentleman, in every sense of the word.  Your childish verbal attacks only cut to your own very characters!

Methane Kills Family Farmers - Bio Gas a Solution

417908-733520-thumbnail.jpg I usually don't read this blog because of the recent sewage that flowed from it, but on a related note he highlights a very unusual tragedy of five people dying from methane produced by a 20' x 20' manure pit.  This DNR article has the details, but it made me immediately think of a simple way for us to capture gases like that and eliminate the release of methane into the environment and produce electricity and even hot water as a result.

According to Climate Science:

Methane (CH4) is the primary component of natural gas and an important energy source. Methane is also a greenhouse gas, meaning that its presence in the atmosphere affects the Earth’s temperature and climate system. Due to its relatively short life time in the atmosphere (9-15 years) and its global warming potency — 20 times more effective than carbon dioxide (CO2) in trapping heat in the atmosphere — reducing methane emissions should be an effective means to reduce climate warming on a relatively short timescale.

Now I don't know exactly how much methane it takes to run one of these micro turbines, but obviously if enough is present to kill people there should be enough to combust...  Have you ever driven by a solid waste treatment facility and seen the flare gas burning?  It's pitiful how wasteful that is because obviously you could be running a few micro turbines or other combustion generators to use that fuel, and at least power your facility with it.

What is the electric bill on a solid waste treatment plant?  You can bet a lot, and it shows how little thought goes into saving public water and sewer consumers $$$ along with preventing the release of methane and other gases into the environment.  Not to mention that after a major hurricane or disaster that having your solid waste treatment plants independent of the grid, than that vital public service could be up and running.

Here is an old, old post on chicken poop to Steam.. Same concept.  Land fills also produce methane that is typically just flared off.  Bacon's Rebellion has a somewhat related post, "Opposition Builds to Big Grid".

Wall of Honor at AG McDonnell's Office

(Click on the Wall)

417908-686686-thumbnail.jpg AG Bob McDonnell has done an awesome job creating a 'Wall of Honor" for all the Virginians who have sacrificed all in the War on Terror.  This memorial starts with Virginians serving on the USS Cole to the present.  This was a great idea, and I am glad that the AG has paid our Virginian Heroes this honor by creating this memorial.
