Size Matters? 30-06 vs 16" Naval Gun
Came across this editorial in Investors Business Daily musing on returning the USS Wisconsin and USS Iowa back into active duty to shell Iran into submission, and saw this interesting factoid, I had never thought about. Sixteen Inch Naval Cannon, muzzle velocity any where from 2,075 to 2,069 feet per second depending on the gun and charge used.
(How does your round compare?)
Comparison to the 30 - 06 with assorted cartridges for further comparison, and the letter back to the editor compared the muzzle velocity of a 9mm Glock Model 19 of 1,148 which of course is a hand gun vs. a naval rifle, which is not really a fair comparison. However, it is interesting to note the similarities of modern rifle rounds weighing grams vs. the shell fired from one of the Guns of our battleships (1,900 to 2,700 lbs).

The Donkey wants a piece of my A$$
both Allen and Webb supports CCR: The Donkey is calling me out! An excerpt of his comments: Come on Spanky. Open up a place where we can really talk about your favorite BOOM BOOM issues. I'll reprint my old Post if you like and lets have at it! and his old post: Dear Cousin Spanky and Sister Swacky: Weaving a Waffle for a Webb are We? So we don’t trust people who change their minds about core issues, eh? Hooray for Herndon!
Thanks in no small part to the efforts of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, the Herndon town council voted 6-1 Tuesday night to partner with ICE to train Herndon police to (get this) ENFORCE THE LAW. That’s right: Herndon police are going to apply for a federal program to train them in enforcing THE LAW (8 U.S.C. 1324-1325, to be precise).
It seems there has been a bit of reluctance in some communities for police to ENFORCE THE LAW simply because the law is federal. I never understood this whole argument about “it’s a federal crime, not a local crime”—in spite of the fact that 8 U.S.C. 1324(c) explicitly states: “All officers whose duty it is to enforce criminal laws shall have authority to make arrests for a violation of any provision of this section.” Kidnapping across state lines is a federal crime. Would local police not arrest a kidnapper because kidnapping across state lines is a federal crime?
Last year, ignoring the many residents of Herndon who supported the rule of law, the Herndon Town Council went beyond failure to enforce the law and chose to aid and abet law breaking when it voted to create the infamous day laborer site. The vote was a mixed blessing—while outrageous, it sparked an even greater outcry which led to the ouster of the mayor and two council members. Now, not only has Herndon’s government voted to embrace law enforcement, it is considering measures that would crack down on employers who are breaking the law.
So, Hooray for Herndon!

NLS: Credibility goes a long way... try it.
I guess NLS is pleasing his RK "Masters" with this post. Bloggers build reputations on presenting facts and well thought out reason to establish and bolster their opinions, or advocacy for a candidate or cause. This is not the way to do that, at least not in my opinion). Witness this posting of two anonymous "sources", one an anonymous comment on the Salon.com (trafficker of Shelton's racist claim against Sen. Allen), an excerpt:
He kept a Dodger bat in his car with words "N***** Knocker" written on it.
and this anonymous beauty purportedly from a "Republican", who couldn't vote any other way:
